GREAT IS THE ENEMY OF GOOD

Technological Woes

Dirtsmith, September 29, 2023October 19, 2023

I am convinced that “technology” (i.e. the consumer gadgets with all the electrons that intermediate our every modern interaction and constitute the basis of our civilization to such a degree that it is the only thing that comes to mind when the word technology is invoked) fails me FAR more often than it does other people. It gives me fits. Devices and programs that work flawlessly for most others just lay down and die when I touch them.

Sigh.

Almighty technology has decreed that I shall NOT be able to upload photos, by any means remotely convenient to me, so the piece I was intending to post shall not be published. I can’t even provide you with The Daily Stone (and that is the most irksome inconvenience of all).

I am too hard-headed to be completely defeated this way. So here is a terrible facsimile of the photo that I would have posted –

The Daily Stone

So there.

If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough

September 26, 2023April 28, 2024

The day started out at high intensity. I got a text from Ironhorse at 8:00 AM that he was “ready to go.” I was still drinking my coffee. When I got to his place at 8:30 he had already gotten started without me. “Impatient?” I asked him as he limped…

So, now I had a satisfactory explanation for the catastrophe. I made a mistake. Bad luck, and the only lessons to learn are – A thought – my dashboard has every imaginable alert. “Check your gas cap,” “your tire pressure sensor is not functioning,” “your trunk is ajar,” etc. Why…
