GREAT IS THE ENEMY OF GOOD

My Message is Simple

Dirtsmith, November 4, 2023May 9, 2024

My Message is Simple

I have seen a beautiful expression –

My religion is very simple. My religion is Kindness.

—

Gyalwa Rinpoche

I LOVE that statement! And I agree completely. As far as religion goes, I don’t think it needs to get any more complicated than that.

Unfortunately, I also believe that even an idealized religion of kindness could never be enough to save us from ourselves. But that is a topic for another day.

Today, I’ll keep it short. You will find no footnotes.

My Message is Simple

My message is simple. My message is

UNSUBSCRIBE

[Okay, maybe ONE footnote1]

The Daily Stone

My Message is Simple
  1. “Soooo…are you asking us to UNSUBSCRIBE to you?!”

What I am really asking is that you UNSUBSCRIBE TO EVERYTHING! At least, anything that is “great.” UNSUBSCRIBE From Oprah, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, Congress, POTUS, the World Economic Forum, Joe Rogan, MTV, Satellite Radio, CNN, Fox News, Martha Stewart, Late Night Television, Taylor Swift, all of it. Even the radio. And most certainly the “News.”

UNSUBSCRIBE from all the voices beamed at you from the Hive Mind of global “civilization.” UBSUBSCRIBE to “greatness;” it offers little to nothing of value for humans. All the voices you need to hear to live a fulfilling life are right around you, accessible free of subscription fees, and without even trying to sell you anything! You just need to find them, and substitute them for all the baying voices of “greatness.”

I hope to represent the sort of voice I encourage you to tune in to – the small voice of a friend who humbly offers his observations and creations, who can connect meaningfully with you and anyone else who chooses to participate in this experiment.

BUT! At whatever point you have unsubscribed from all the “greatness,” then you already get it! You have no need of the message I offer. This is a preachy variety act after all, and I am a messenger first and foremost. I’m not looking to collect a following of people, particularly those who have already gotten the message. But maybe you get something of value from the connection, or enjoy my creative offerings. I know I value the connection, and I celebrate your creative offerings. So if this is meaningful to you, stay. I just ask that you try to consider the message. ↩︎

My Favorite Poison Drinker

February 22, 2024May 11, 2024

I love Caitlin Jonstone. I admire her passion and compassion, her perception, and her real actual “Rugged Individualism.” I am saddened by the parts of her work that I consider futile self-torture. And I’m disappointed with her often completely counter productive polemic diatribes and ad hominem attacks. Not that I…
