Hollywood – A Pretty (Apocalyptic) Song

Dirtsmith, November 7, 2023November 7, 2023

Hollywood – A Pretty (Apocalyptic) Song

I’m not sure why exactly, but so much of the music I have created over the years has evaporated into the digital void. (Actually there is a lot of it in the analog void as well, going all the way back to the first songs I ever wrote and recorded on a tape deck four-track).

But every now and then I stumble over a song I forgot I even recorded; a song with lyrics and structure I don’t even remember because at some point I decided I didn’t like it anymore and stopped playing it entirely. And sometimes it is even a beautiful song. This may be the nicest vocal recording I have ever managed to produce.

Please enjoy this song. It’s Pretty. It’s Pretty Apocalyptic (in a whimsical way). Written on a rooftop in Buenos Aires in the springtime of youth, recorded in a home studio at the peak of vocal tonality, discarded in the doldrums of midlife disappointment. Now renewed through a realist Celebration of Mediocrity.

Content Warning

The following text is entirely gratuitous to this post; you may cheerfully disregard

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Warning

This post has been rated “Orange Neutral Face” for the following

  • Internal links: No internal links appear in this page, make sure to add some!
  • Text length: The text contains 172 words. This is far below the recommended minimum of 300 words. Add a bit more “content”

I certainly don’t believe every post ought to meet a minimum count of “content.” That’s the sort of Hive Mind, consumer-driven bullshit this site exists to oppose. Besides, this is a Preachy Variety Act; there’s not much “variety” if all the posts contain the minimum 300 words of verbal “content” that an algorithmic Hive Mind has determined as the optimum to generate “consumer engagement.”

Nevertheless, it is also a Preachy Variety Act. For that to be effective, I must take SEO into consideration.

So there. Are you happy now?

[New SEO rating of “Green Happy Face” indicates ‘Yes!’]

Counting Sheep Your favorite (ahem, only) Preachy Variety Act is back with an offering that is (totally not) ready to go live! It’s a brand new song I’ve been working on yesterday and today. Pretty much all my daily allotment of creative energy has been invested into it, and I…

In the Country (Lowlife/Highlife)

A rough demo. This was the public debut of my original song In the Country (Lowlife/Highlife). The presentation is humorous but I snuck in some commentary. The Daily Stone
