GREAT IS THE ENEMY OF GOOD

A Wonderful Day in Photos

Dirtsmith, October 16, 2023October 22, 2023
My best friend. It’s been months.

Pebbles!

Avarice / Dilemma

Chores

Setting the Post / Applied Nautical Technology

Dusted Out (note Applied Nautical Technology – guy wire stabilization)

Free Second-Hand Mixer (Refurbished by Ironhorse) / Stabilizing Form with Concrete

That’s what you want to see!

Post Set in Concrete / Added Rubble

Dinner / Sacred Origin

Cozy Company

The Daily Stone

Provenance – Found amongst a whole mess of pebbles in the road. I was sorely tempted to disregard my discipline and take only one. These are common landscape stones (see the photo towards the top – “Avarice”) but I like them because they can be pretty and flat and round, and you can Dremel a hole through the center and make beads out of them. And they were on the ground and I found them so they technically met my requirements. But it didn’t quite feel right. Then I glanced over and noticed that several barrels that blocked the street were covered in these stones. These had just been swept off the top of one of them somehow. I could feel the magic tangibly ebbing away. But I could still choose one from amongst those on the ground, and I liked this one.

Dreams of Elysium The ancient Greeks occupy a prominent position in my consciousness, and this is completely justified in my opinion. More than 2,000 years later, the culture they created offers blessings and wonders that support us to this day. And the Ancient Greeks dreamt of Elysium. In their conception…

Mate is out of the country again for several weeks, so I am left to my own devices. Thus any mitigating effect she has on my eccentricities is gravely attenuated. The tiny home we share has been sliding into a state of chaos over the past three weeks since we…

Elysium (II)

October 5, 2023May 9, 2024

[Read Elysium (1)] Transcendence of Society is hard. As Joseph Campbell observed – “The myth is the public domain and the dream is the private myth. If your private myth, your dream, happens to coincide with that of the society, you are in good accord with your group. If it…
